Storytelling can be invaluable in communicating about complex topics, especially when targeting non-specialists.

Moana. Big Hero 6. Inside Out ... Other than being entertaining and endearing, what do these movies have in common?
They use storytelling as a means of explaining complex scientific topics.
If you want to educate kids on the basics of ecoliteracy and sustainability, "Moana" is a good starting point. (1) 🌊
Meanwhile, "Inside Out" had been recognized by mental health professionals for accurately portraying principles of cognitive, developmental, and clinical psychology. (2) 🧠
And "Big Hero 6" (my personal favorite, featuring lovable "healthcare companion" robot Baymax) has inspired an intro to soft robotics for grade-school kids: "Exploring Soft Robotics Through the Movie Big Hero 6." (3) 🤖
Throughout my career, I've often worked with professionals in the areas of science and health, from nanophysics to neurology. Whatever the field, I've found that even the most complex topics can benefit from some creative storytelling when communicating to non-specialist audiences.
